Over the weekend we took a day trip to an apple farm, just north of Bellingham. Bellewood Acres was so much fun, I thought I’d share about it here, in case any of you are craving a fun day out with your family.
Located about six miles from Bellingham, and just a few miles from Canada, BelleWood Acres is home to one of Northwest Washington’s largest apple orchards. You can pick your own apples and your own pumpkins from our pumpkin patch, and our farm market features fresh, locally grown produce.
Our all-new 14,000 square-foot building offers an expanded farm market, gift shop plus a Country Café and bakery.
Right after parking our kids ran over to the giant play area, made with tires. We could’ve let them play in the tire area all afternoon, but we had apple picking to do!
Walking out to the apple trees, we passed the pumpkin fields. They are looking gorgeous, but they aren’t quite ready….yet!
A lot of people love the experience of taking a tractor ride out to the apple orchard. When you pre-pay for a bag of apples, you get a free ticket. Otherwise, 3 and under are free and other tickets are $4.
We opted to walk and as you can see, the kids were super excited when we reached the first rows of trees.
Before you pick apples, you’ll prepay for a bag. A full bag of Honey Crisp’s is $18.50. At first it seemed a little spendy to me, but then I tasted one….BEST APPLE OF MY LIFE. And the orchards are impeccably maintained.
BelleWood Acres is owned and operated by John and Dorie Belisle, who, with their family, planted the initial orchard in 1996. With more than 25,000 fruit trees, the orchard is one of the largest U-Pick operations in western Washington. Our goal has always been to grow the best apples in Whatcom County and to provide visitors with many fun filled days on the farm.
Everything at BelleWood Acres is done with a philosophy of strong community and responsible farming. After filling our bag, we continued to walk around, taking pictures and just enjoying time as a family.
