Now let’s be real for a moment- if you’re going to pick up garbage (which you totally should!) why not pick it up in one of the most gorgeous places on earth? And why not make a mini-vacation out of it? Come on! Doesn’t it sound fun? Today I’m sharing one of the things our family will be doing to participate in Earth Day, which happens to be this coming Saturday!
Join us in cleaning up the San Juan Islands and then afterwards, go for a hike, lunch or just relax on the beach all day. These events need you, your family, your friends, your cheerful attitude and your skills. Make the world a cleaner place, while having fun! Now let’s talk about the details…..
Great Islands Clean-up
Islanders and visitors alike are invited to join in the fun and help give San Juan, Orcas, Lopez and Shaw Island their annual spring cleaning! Last year during the Great Islands Clean-Up, over 400 people collected about 6200 pounds of litter from the roadsides and beaches of the three islands, and how wonderful everything looked! But sadly, a portion of our refuse continues to end up as litter. Thoughtless tossing of bottles, cans, food wrappers, or cigarette butts; accidental “blowing away” of debris from unsecured loads on boats and trucks; or deliberate dumping of tires, etc., all contribute to the need to make litter pick-up an ongoing effort. Bring your friends and family along this year and make a day of it. After picking up litter for the morning, go have lunch (here’s an awesome dining guide), take a hike (find your perfect hike here) or spend the rest of the day enjoying the beach. The San Juan Island’s are one of the most beautiful places to visit and how wonderful it is to have them right here in the PNW!
When was the last time you hopped on a ferry and enjoyed this incredible spot?
