Create a May Day Basket!

Have you ever been surprised on May 1st with a May basket hung on the door? This year, bring back the forgotten tradition and make a May basket at Christianson’s Nursery with artist, Laura Campbell. In past times, hanging a May basket on someone’s door was a chance to express romantic interest. Spread the love and learn to fashion baskets to an 8” (screen-covered moss) cone and handle with tools brought from home: gloves, pruners and pliers. Fill your basket with plants (available for purchase at the Nursery), small, thoughtful gifts and candies or hide a jar inside to hold fresh cuts from your spring garden! We provide materials for construction. This class may inspire you to make several more baskets for loved ones that will send them to dance around the May Pole with joy! Reservations required (360) 466-3821 or 800-585-8200; Class Fee: $34. www.ChristiansonsNursery.com

Great Islands Clean-up

DATE:

April 22, 2017

TIME:

9:00 a.m. – Noon

ADMISSION INFORMATION:

Free

Islanders and visitors alike are invited to join in the fun and help give San Juan, Orcas, Lopez and Shaw Island their annual spring cleaning! Last year during the Great Islands Clean-Up, over 400 people collected about 6200 pounds of litter from the roadsides and beaches of the three islands, and how wonderful everything looked! But sadly, a portion of our refuse continues to end up as litter. Thoughtless tossing of bottles, cans, food wrappers, or cigarette butts; accidental “blowing away” of debris from unsecured loads on boats and trucks; or deliberate dumping of tires, etc., all contribute to the need to make litter pick-up an ongoing effort.
